NGOS: GRASSROOTS EMPOWERMENT OR TOOL OF INFORMATION WARFARE?

Written and produced by SF Team: Daniel Deiss, J.Hawk, Edwin Watson During the early phases of the post-Cold War “New World Order,” NGOs were touted as representing a new wave of international politics. Instead of allowing international issues to be settled in closed meetings, the people themselves, informed by intrepid citizen journalists, would from now on play the key role in setting the agenda. Like most of the promises made in the 1990s, this one also failed to deliver. It became clear that many NGOs, far from representing the “grass roots” of politics, were more akin to the artificial grass-like stadium surface known in the US as “astroturf”. It may look and even, to a degree, feel like the genuine article, but it most certainly is not. Many NGOs, while presenting a public image of bottom-up activism, were funded by major corporations or governments, which had the effect of depriving them of their independence and objectivity. Given the success of NGOs as promoters of corp

YEMEN: THE ATTACKS OF A FORGOTTEN WAR

n Riyadh and Abu Dhabi’s struggle for domination in the region. So far the Houthis are winning Written by Evgeny Satanovsky; Originally appeared at VPK , translated by AlexD exclusively for SouthFront The events in Syria overshadowed the civil war in Yemen to the outside world, where monarchies of the Persian Gulf, contingents of allied countries of the Arab world (under pressure from the financial situation compelled to support this operation of the “Gulfers”) and, indirectly, Iran take part in. In addition, military actions are not only carried out in Yemen but in border areas of Saudi Arabia, and recently spread to the African continent, to Eritrea and Somalia, who became support bases of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) on the Red Sea. In Yemen the Gulf monarchies, who wage war in Syria against the Assad government, using their controlled jihadists, are forced to use their armed forces and have suffered significant losses. However, the goals that

U.S. Studying Military and other Options on Syria -State Dept

By Reuters The United States is looking at multilateral and unilateral options for dealing with the war in Syria going forward, including diplomatic, military, intelligence and economic options, the U.S. State Department said on Tuesday. State Department spokesman Mark Toner said that following the collapse of U.S.-Russian effort to achieve a cease-fire in Syria, the United States was "looking at a range of options," either working with other countries or alone. "We always ... consider unilateral options when looking at a situation like Syria," he said. "But ... we're also looking ... at how we can leverage and work with the other members of the ISSG," the International Syria Support Group of countries. Hong Kong's Elections: Opposition's Nathan Law Backed by US

Hong Kong held legislative elections this week with one of the leaders of the so-called "Umbrella Movement" also known as "Occupy Central" apparently winning a constituency seat. The BBC in an article titled, " Hong Kong election: Anti-China activists set to take LegCo seats ," would report: A new generation of anti-China activists have won seats on Hong Kong's Legislative Council (LegCo), preliminary results indicate. Among them is Nathan Law, one of the young leaders of the mass pro-democracy demonstrations of 2014, who is now on course to win a constituency seat. It is the first taste of real political power for the young protest leaders. But pro-Beijing politicians will retain a majority of seats, partly because of the electoral system. What the BBC neglects to inform readers is that while it claims the opposition failed to do better because of a pro-Beijing electoral system, the opposition itself exists solely because of Western backing. "White Helmet" "Save Aleppo" Protest Proves How Easy it is to Dress Up Actors as "War Victims"

October 3, 2016 (Tony Cartalucci - LD) - Recent protests held across North America and Europe staged by supporters of armed militants in Syria have staged scenes in Western streets eerily similar to those featured in the photos and videos of the US-European funded "Syrian Civil Defence" also known as the "White Helmets." Image: This is not Aleppo, Syria, but rather the streets of Europe where a recent "save Aleppo" protest was staged. Actors posing in fake dust and blood proved just how easy it is for anyone to create "war victims" anytime, anywhere. Saudi state media, Al Arabiya English would report in an October 1, 2016 article titled, " Worldwide protest against Assad, Russia to ‘save Aleppo’ ," that: The stalling talks between international powers on Syria - with Russia ramping up its air raid campaign - has ignited worldwide protests calling for an end to the horror in Aleppo. Protestors in Turkey, France, Netherlands, America and
