On September 1, the Taliban news agency Voice of Jihad announced that the Taliban assassinated the director of the Afghan Intelligence Cirectorate in Chakhansur town, Bismllah Khan Hussiny, near the Iranian-Afghanistan border.
According to Voice of Jihad, Hussiny’s car was targeted by Taliban fighters in Ismail roundabout in Zaranj city near the border with Iran. Voice of Jihad said that the former director of the Afghani intelligence directorate in Zaranj city, Ahmad Shah Salem, was in the car, and was also killed in the attack.
In a separate development, the Taliban released several Afghan Army soldiers who had been captured by Taliban fighters previously as a gesture of goodwill on the occasion of Eid al-Adha.
Leader of the Taliban, Hibatullah Akhundzada, released a statement to the Afghan people and the world on the occasion of Eid al-Adha also. In his statement Hibatullah asked other governments to not judge the Taliban.
“There is neither harm (in Islamic rules) nor a (Muslim) should commit a harmful act,” Hibatullah said.
Hibatullah also stressed that the Taliban is not interested in harming or operating in any foreign country. The statement clarified the Taliban approach after US president Donald Trump announced the new US plan in the country.
“We urge the regional governments and those of the Islamic world to know our policy and position before announcing any unilateral stance or leveling accusation [against us] and don’t view us from the angle of our enemy. The Islamic Emirate doesn’t have any intention to harm anyone,” Said Hibatullah.
In his statement Hibatullah also claimed that the Taliban only wants “a free, independent and progressive Afghanistan.”
