UNKNOWN GUNMEN ATTEMPT TO ASSASSINATE GENERAL COMMANDER OF NEWLY FORMED “NATIONAL FRONT FOR THE LIBERATION OF SYRIA”
On September 3, unknown gunmen tried to assassinate Abu Hamza, a general commander of the newly formed National Front for the Liberation of Syrian (NFLS).
The gunmen shelled Abu Hamza car with machine guns on the road between al-Sahw and al-Musifrah villages in the eastern Daraa countryside, according to an official statement of the NFLS.
The NFLS statement added that Abu Hamza and his guards were injured. However, Abu Hamza injury was light. He is now recovering.
The NFLS was established on August 22 by 11 different Free Syrian Army (FSA) groups from southern Syria. The NLFS claims that it is an independent body working to achieve the goals of the Syrian revolution.
The NLFS impendency has pushed some opposition activists to believe that the US-led Military Operation Center (MOC) in Jordan might be behind the assassination attempt. However, others believe that ISIS-affiliated Jaysh Khalid ibn al-Waleed is behind the attempt.
Many MOC-backed FSA groups in southern Syrian had many disagreements with the MOC command. One of the disagreement reasons is that the FSA failed launching any successful operation against Jaysh Khalid ibn al-Waleed in the western Daraa countryside. Another issue is that the FSA refused to stop fighting the SAA in the Damascus desert.
