On November 3, six Tu-22M3 strategic bombers and the Varshavyanka class attack submarine Kolpino conducted a massive strike on ISIS positions near al-Bukamal.
Spokesperson for the Russian Defense Ministry Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said that the submarine launched six Kalibr cruise missiles from an underwater position in the Mediterranean Sea. Su-24 and Su-34 warplanes were also involved in the strike alongside with the Tu-22M3 bombers.
ISIS allegedly suffered heavy losses due to the recent seires of strikes by Russian bombers and submarines.
“This enabled General Hassan Suheil’s assault forces to launch active offensive operations with the aim to wipe out the Islamic State’s last stronghold in the east of Syria,” Konashenkov added, according to TASS. [General Hassan Suheil is a commander of the Syrian Arab Army Tiger Forces.]
